McDonald’s will add 5000 more people by the end of next yer to its UK team as its outlets open for longer, extend the range of food and beverages it offers, and adds table service to a growing number of restaurants.
Its innovation project will see another 250 stores transformed this year, with self-service kiosks and table service transforming the way meals are ordered and presented.
Paul Pomroy, chief executive officer, McDonald’s UK, said the workforce will total over 110,000 by the time its current programme is completed.
“As a major UK employer, we have added more than 15,000 people to our workforce during the last five years as a result of our sustained business growth and long-term investment in recruitment and training. Growth has been driven by investment and innovation in the restaurant experience, new restaurants and extended opening hours; over half of our stores are now open 24/7 throughout the week.
“Together with our franchisees, our multi-million pound investment into the next chapter of the McDonald’s story continues, and today we are celebrating the completion of our 500th restaurant transformation. We are on track to convert a further 250 stores by the end of this year. Innovations like table service where customers place their order via our new digital kiosks and have their food brought to them, are proving incredibly popular and in place in over 350 restaurants across the UK.”
Looking further ahead, McDonald’s in Singapore has given a glimpse into how future outlets will look and feel. An online video shows a dramatically different layout, with kitchens open to see from the restaurant; separate dessert, salad and coffee bars; touch screen ordering and waiter service.
