The Internorga hospitality show in Germany – due to take place the week after next – has been postponed over coronavirus fears.

Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH said it is postponing the 2020 exhibition amid growing concern about the increasing number of COVID-19 infections.

The event was supposed to run between 13 and 17 March, with more than 100,000 visitors expected.

“HMC’s decision is consistent with the recommendations issued by the Federal Government’s Emergency Task Force to base risk assessments for large gatherings on the guidelines of the Robert Koch Institute, the government’s public health centre,” it said in a statement this afternoon.

The organisation said that numerous exhibitors have already withdrawn their registrations.

The postponement also applies to all conferences and accompanying events scheduled in conjunction with Internorga.

Bernd Aufderheide, president and CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH, said: “The safety and health of our exhibitors, visitors and employees are our highest priority. We will presumably hold Internorga 2020 in summer instead.”

Organisers have not yet said when the new date for the trade fair will be scheduled.
