Italian cooking equipment brand buys its way into refrigeration market

Iglu Cold Systems

Italian custom cooking equipment specialist Marrone has added a new string to its bow after striking a deal to acquire front-of-house refrigerator specialist Iglu Cold Systems.

Marrone produces custom cooking suites for the international foodservice industry and also owns Italian fabricator and counter manufacturer Steelnovo, as well as recently acquiring Australia-based pizza oven manufacturer, Phoenix Ovens.

The cooking equipment firm plans to use the Pordenone-headquartered refrigerator manufacturer to further expand its customer offering.

It believes the move will combine the design know-how and advanced technologies applied to refrigeration and cooking, as well as developing manufacturing synergies for the custom-made products.

Former CEO and joint owner of Iglu, Giacomo Ruzza, said: “After 17 years full of passion and dedication, I can step down and look for new challenges and pass over the helm of the company. I am proud to leave Iglu in the hands of my former partner because he is an outstanding entrepreneur with a great history of success in our industry: nobody could have been more suited to proceed in the path we had already walked together.

“Marrone will surely treasure on the know-how accumulated by Iglu in the years, and, enhancing industrial and commercial synergies among them, all the companies of the group will have the best opportunity to grow even stronger.”

Iglu’s UK office is based in Thatcham, Berkshire, and it also has facilities in Germany, the UAE and Australia.
