As an operations executive, you want to be working for a brand that is constantly looking to expand and evolve itself, and that’s certainly the case for Keith Bird.
It’s been a momentous year for Gourmet Burger Kitchen as it has pushed on with site growth to edge past the 70-store mark and taken back ownership of five GBK stores in the Irish market. It has pledged to invest more than £3m in a refurbishment programme to upgrade all five sites as part of a strategy to up the ante in the Emerald Isle.
“Whilst we are investing into the current restaurants, we’re also actively looking for more sites in Dublin and further afield, with a view to growing by one or two restaurants a year over the next five years,” reveals Keith.
Of course, the biggest news involving the burger chain came just recently when GBK announced it will move forward under the parentage of South African foodservice giant Famous Brands following a £120m takeover.
The acquisition rationale is particularly compelling for the new owner as GBK can offer a differentiated, flexible fast casual business model, providing access to its products across a range of channels: eat-in and take away service, online delivery and GBK-branded food products in retail outlets.
