Kitchen trial for equipment brand after Dragon’s Den style pitch

A successful Dragon’s Den style pitch has resulted in the country’s largest catering provider trialling Hull-based FriPura’s kitchen oil filter.

The catering equipment firm, which manufactures a new kitchen oil filter that makes fried food healthier and extends the life of oil, presented the product to a team of judges at the Compass-organised Idea Works! event in Birmingham earlier this year.

During the pitch, Andrew Clay, legal and technical director, explained the oil and cost saving benefits for the restaurant industry, as well as the health and taste improvements for the consumer.

The filter is a small ceramic block suitable for use by pubs, restaurants and other commercial kitchens using large quantities of cooking oil. It sits in the bottom of fryers and doubles the life of deep fat fryer oil before it needs to be changed.

Clay said: “We are delighted that the panel agreed that the FriPura filter is an innovative product. We already supply the filter to a range of pub, restaurant and hotel chains that are seeing great results.”

FriPura Ltd was formed specifically to bring the patented FriPura filter system to market. Independent tests conducted by Campden BRI and Bibra show that the ilter helps improve the quality of food and reduce absorption of unhealthy elements associated with deep fat frying.
