Loungers cafe chain speeds up UK roll-out

Loungers, the all-day cafe, bar and restaurant group, has revealed it will target new sites in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Hinckley, Hereford and Newquay during the first two months of 2016 as it looks to continue its current rate of expansion.

The company now operates 75 sites in the UK, with its most recent venture opening in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, last month. 20 of its stores have come in the last 12 months.

Loungers managing director, Nick Collins, said that the 20 sites opened in 2015 meant the firm had hit its targets.

“The business is significantly bigger than this time last year, with hundreds more jobs created and with both our top and bottom lines enjoying very satisfying growth,” he said. “We‘re very comfortable with the speed of the roll-out and feel we have the talent and strength in depth in our ops team to continue at pace and we’re excited at the prospect of developing out the 2016 pipeline.”

Edmundo Lounge in Bury St Edmunds opened in a former Officers Club unit on Cornhill in the town and followed on from the launch of Teatro Lounge in Clevedon, Drago Lounge in Newport, Zinco Lounge in Swansea and the group’s 12th Cosy Club in Bournemouth at the end of last year.

Edmundo Lounge is set over two floors of a Grade II-listed building and comprises 150 covers internally. It is Loungers’ first opening in Suffolk and is the furthest east the Bristol-based group has reached.
