MARKET TALK: Chef camaraderie, flying freezers and the British Bulldog spirit

In this week’s episode of Market Talk, Andrew Green, chief executive of the Craft Guild of Chefs, and Ewen Cairns, UK sales manager at Foster and Gamko, share their views on the industry as the four-week national lockdown begins. 

Mr Green details how the chef community has been coping during such a turbulent time and the long-term impact that Covid-19 could have on the profession and the way that kitchens are operated and designed.

He looks at the positives that can be taken from such a trying time and also outlines a new mentor scheme that the Craft Guild has launched within the past week to support young chefs trying to develop a career within the industry.

Meanwhile, Mr Cairns provides an insight to how the refrigeration manufacturer is gearing up its operations for the next four weeks and the support it is providing to operators during such an uncertain period, including the extension of financing programmes into 2021.

He reveals how the pandemic has led to a change in the sort of refrigeration equipment that customers are buying and why he is determined to maintain a ‘glass half full’ mentality as the industry bids to recover.
