MARKET TALK: First thoughts of new FEA chair, the start-ups are coming and Nina Simone

In this week’s episode of Market Talk, Steve Hobbs, the new chair of the Foodservice Equipment Association (FEA) and director of Grande Cuisine, and Marios Poumpouris, managing director of Chiller Box, join us for a chat about industry trends and developments.

Having served as FEA vice-chair for the past two years, Mr Hobbs was always on track to take over the baton in November 2020, but nobody at the association (or anywhere for that matter) would have quite believed the challenges the market would be facing by the time the handover came around. He reveals what it feels like to take the helm at such an unprecedented time.

Mr Hobbs also outlines his vision for the next two years, discusses the legacy that he hopes to leave and shares his thoughts on the pressing issues that will shape the future of the commercial kitchen industry.

Marios Poumpouris heads up London-based Chiller Box, which delivers catering and refrigeration projects to clients from a range of sectors including education, leisure, retail and contract catering.

He describes how the company’s lean operating structure and personalised approach have been important assets throughout this year and why two-way relationships with suppliers have proved to be invaluable in trying times.

Mr Poumpouris also highlights why the growing number of enquiries the business is receiving from potential customers looking to take advantage of falling high street rents and start new foodservice concepts gives him confidence that better days lay ahead.
