MARKET TALK: Menu pressures, food price fluctuations and releasing the project handbrake

In this week’s episode of Market Talk, Oliver Hall, managing director at Allmanhall, and Toby Magness, sales director at Ambach, join us to assess the industry landscape.

The catering equipment sector is well aware of the logistics issues facing the industry at the moment, with delays, shortages and cost increases all having an impact on the availability of product.

Mr Hall reveals how this is all playing out on the food side of the market and details the challenges arising from a scarcity of HGV drivers to deliver ingredients to restaurants.

He also outlines which food items are most likely to be affected by price fluctuations in the second half of the year and what it could mean for future menu trends.

Meanwhile, Mr Magness shares Ambach’s views on what the project landscape looks like as hotels and restaurants restart high-end kitchen schemes that were paused during the lockdown.

The premium cooking equipment supplier’s factory in Italy has seen business ramp up in recent months and he explains how it plans to ensure that orders are fulfilled throughout the summer even as it prepares for its normal annual closure for the holiday season in Southern Europe.
