Metcalfe gives cling film the snip with Australian kitchen invention

Flexsil-lid 1

Metcalfe Catering Equipment has done a deal Down Under that could lead to UK chefs doing away with cling film and plastic wrap in favour of a more effective solution.

The company has struck an agreement to sell the award-winning Flexsil-lid range of re-usable lids into the UK market.

An Australian invention, the Flexsil-lid was created as a replacement for plastic film wrap and foil, and is designed to cover gastronorm and steam pans.Flexsil lid range 2

The lids were primarily designed for keeping foodstuffs fresher for longer when stored in fridges or coldrooms but are also capable of being frozen and cooked with.

Flexsil-lids are resistant to both the heat of ovens and the cold of freezers and are made from food-grade silicon.

Using a patented ‘lip-lock’ design, the Flexsil-lid fits all standard Gastronorms or steam pans, covering the contents to maintain freshness longer when stored, or speed up the cooking time if used in ovens.

The product can withstand temperatures of low as -40°C if used in freezers and up to 220°C when cooking in ovens. It is also dishwasher safe and, crucially, can be used many times over.
