The Middleby Corporation has taken over the Chinese firm that produces the Thor range of cooking equipment.
It will use the acquisition of Guangdong-based United Foodservice Equipment Group as a way to expand its presence in Asia and introduce more of its brands to the region.
United Foodservice Equipment Group specialises in the manufacture and supply of countertop commercial foodservice equipment, posting recent annual revenues of $10m (£7.2m).
United has been designing and manufacturing countertop commercial foodservice equipment since 2001 under the brand name Thor.
Its grills, fryers and ranges are sold in a number of Asian and European markets through exclusive distribution partners, including Nisbets in the UK.
It remains to be seen how that arrangement will be affected by the change in ownership given that Middleby’s UK operations could potentially serve as a conduit for the brand.
Nisbets also holds distribution rights for Thor in Australia and New Zealand.
