San Carlo Restaurant Group is betting on a dining rebound in London after confirming it will launch a new site just yards from Selfridges’ flagship store.

The group plans to create a new Italian restaurant concept in St Christopher’s Place, with spring 2021 mooted as the opening date.

The 6,000 square foot restaurant will have room for 200 covers and feature two outdoor dining terraces.

San Carlo is owned by the Distefano family, whose estate numbers 21 restaurants across the UK and five globally in Qatar, Bangkok, Riyadh and Bahrain.

The new restaurant will add to its current portfolio of restaurants across London which includes Alto by San Carlo, the rooftop, Selfridges, Signor Sassi on Knightsbridge Green, Cicchetti Piccadilly and Covent Garden, San Carlo Regent Street St James’s and Fumo St Martin’s Lane.

Managing director, Marcello Distefano, said: “We are very excited to have been able to acquire this site as it has been on our radar for a long time. St Christopher’s Place and the area surrounding it has been going through an amazing transformation over the past couple of years.

“We’re looking forward to bringing something new and exciting and will be revealing our plans in the coming weeks. Although London is very difficult at the moment, we believe it will come back stronger than ever.”

San Carlo Restaurant Group was founded in 1992 by Carlo Distefano, who opened his first site in Temple Street, Birmingham.

Now joined by two generations of the Distefano family, the firm’s authentic Italian restaurants are present in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol, Leeds and Leicester.
