Nisbets buys service firm with network of 500 independent catering engineers


Nisbets confirmed this afternoon that it has taken over UK Engineers Ltd in what remarkably represents its first acquisition in five years.

The Bristol-based supplier did not disclose the terms of the transaction, but insisted it was an “important strategic step” in providing the highest standards of service, speed and consistency across the hospitality sector.

The deal is a statement of Nisbets’ intent to improve its after-sales service capabilities on a UK-wide basis.

Nisbets said that UK Engineers Ltd would complement its omni-channel approach, which incorporates online sales, retail stores, telesales and trade counters.

UK Engineers, which is registered in Cornwall, already works closely with Nisbets’ design, install and technical support teams, as well as Space Catering, the design and project house that Nisbets owns.

Peter Sephton, vice chairman at Nisbets, said the company was keen to use UK Engineers’ technology platform to extend its service offering and to drive new synergies in its installation and warranty work.

“This acquisition is our first in over five years and is made despite the uncertain trading conditions caused by the pandemic, demonstrating our absolute commitment to the catering and hospitality sector,” he said.

“Technology is fundamental to our ability to maintain high growth for our businesses and this acquisition will enable us to enhance our service offering further.”

UK Engineers is a nationwide provider of catering and refrigeration services with 25 years’ pedigree in the market.

It specialises in connecting independent, qualified engineers with professional customers to service heavy equipment in the catering and hospitality sector.

Its scalable technology platform supports its network of 500 dedicated contractors, providing full UK coverage for heavy equipment sales both within and beyond warranty.

UK Engineers will continue to trade as a separate entity under its existing management team led by its managing director, Paul Holloway.
