Kitchen maintenance is likely to be a major focus for operators in the months ahead as they attempt to prolong the life of equipment – but it is often the smaller things that can create the most trouble if they are not ended to, according to a leading supplier.
Service solutions firm Filta Group says that one of the most common maintenance issues in refrigeration is the fridge seal – and it doesn’t take long for supplementary problems to mount.
Damian Slater, general manager of Filta, said a damaged fridge seal can impact energy efficiency, hygiene and running costs and, if left unrepaired, can contribute to a lower hygiene rating from the FSA.
“In this situation, a site would usually call their refrigeration company, which sends an engineer with expensive call-out fees to establish the make, model and serial number. Sourcing a replacement seal can take weeks, particularly in the current climate where some companies face supply issues due to the coronavirus situation.
“The engineer is then sent back to fit the seal, which means another call-out fee on top of the seal and delivery costs – all while paying extra for energy costs because of the faulty seal,” he said.
Filta offers a UK-based solution, ensuring continuity of service, as well as a bespoke solution which prevents the need to match the make, model and serial number.
Mr Slater explained: “With our unique service, an engineer is despatched within five working days. In one visit that engineer will measure and make the seal on-site using patented technology, before fitting it in under 20 minutes – all with a 97% first-fix solution.
“It’s cheaper and quicker for the customer without compromising on quality because the materials used are the same standard as the OEM seals. More importantly at times like this, when the industry is impacted by global issues and parts shortages from the Asian market, making the seal from high-quality material on site means we can still deliver the same service without any risk of supply issues.”
