Commercial microwave specialist Panasonic has launched a range of automatic rice cookers aimed at helping operators make a perfect job of one of the most commonly found items on a menu.
Rice cookers are widely used in the Far East but in the UK the benefits of using one in a professional capacity are generally underappreciated.
With 25% of the £750m UK rice industry said to be attributed to the catering sector, Panasonic hopes that it is striking at just the right time.
Its rice cookers are aimed at those who want to serve perfectly cooked rice every time, while minimising the waste that often occurs through lack of experience or confidence in cooking rice.
Sales and marketing manager, Iain Phillips, said: “Many operators will be cooking rice in volume and reheating to order or using individual ‘heat in the bag’ options, which can prove expensive, so we expect a lot of interest in our rice cookers as they offer a simple, cost-effective solution.”
The units will safely hold rice hot, are non-stick so easy to clean, and don’t require any extraction. They are available in two sizes: 23 and 40 cup capacities. One portion is generally accepted as half cup of uncooked rice, or roughly 90g, which means they will cook approximately 46 and 80 portions respectively.
Panasonic will formally launch the rice cookers at the Commercial Kitchen show in June.
“For the fourth year running we are revealing our newest launch at Commercial Kitchen because of its specific audience,” said Mr Philips. “This show has proven to be effective in the past and on this occasion even more so, as we expand our range with a range of commercial rice cookers.”
Panasonic will be exhibiting at the show on stand G29 with Regale Microwaves.
