Pizza Express chefs prepped after epic menu development drive

Pizza Express Global Innovation Centre 3

The fruits of Pizza Express’ menu development work during the recent lockdown will be seen in the coming weeks after the chain confirmed it would unleash 16 new dishes this summer.

The chain has been focusing hard on innovating its menu ahead of the recent reopening of all its sites, with a series of new items set to make their debut.

The summer menu will include 16 new dishes alongside traditional favourites. Dough Balls take centre stage with three new recipes joining the menu – loaded pesto and tomato, hot jalapeno and a baked cheese choice.

Pizza Express will also launch a new Romana BBQ Burnt Ends pizza, flavoured by the crispy-caramelised ends of a 12-hour cooked beef brisket, and the highly-anticipated Sloppy Vegan, the meat-free alternative to its popular Sloppy Giuseppe pizza.

The investment comes as Pizza Express prepares to roll out an updated website at the end of this month, including new food photography and social media content.

Shadi Halliwell, chief customer officer at Pizza Express, said: “Innovation has been at the heart of Pizza Express since Peter Boizot first introduced ‘casual dining’ in the 1960s. We’re very excited to be taking this to the next level in 2021, with delicious new flavours and dishes that customers can enjoy in our pizzerias, at home and everywhere in between!

“As always we’ve listened intently to customers and worked tirelessly with our experts to develop our ideas to perfection. This is Pizza Express going back to its roots, strengthening the brand for years to come. Our reinvented brand is strong, bold and ready to make some noise.”
