French bakery and café brand Paul can credit significant investment in its central bakery kitchen and an intensive refurb programme spanning a third of its estate for a 12% uptick in annual sales over the past year.
Led by Jean-Michel Orieux, the 36-strong group now boasts a turnover north of £30m and EBITDA before head office costs and management fees totalling £3.2m.
Two new bakeries opened during the year, both of which hit the ground running, while 11 stores underwent refurbishment, which led to an improvement in sales.
Jean-Michel has driven the development of the brand’s catering and delivery offer through investment in its central bakery, the expansion of the product range and an improved online ordering portal.
With the chain’s development chefs working hard to create new products that put the spotlight on the heritage of its brand and authenticity of its French bakery and patisserie, Jean-Michel is confident that the group can head off the economic challenges facing the sector.
“Through the continued refurbishment of our stores, development of our product range and central bakery plus commitment to our team and processes, we are confident Paul will continue to engage with our customers and perform well,” he says.
