POWER LIST 2017, BUSINESS LEADERS: Simon Longbottom, CEO, Stonegate Pub Company

Stonegate Pub Company

It is easy to forget that Stonegate only began trading in November 2010 following the acquisition of 333 pubs from Mitchells & Butlers, but in the last seven years the owner of brands such as Slug and Lettuce and Yates has come a long way.

It is now twice the size (689 sites at the last count) as it was in that formative period, making it the fourth largest managed pub company in the UK as things currently stand. Simon Longbottom portrait NEW

Turnover in its last full year topped £625m while food sales growth has outgrown beverages in the last two years in a sign of how important its kitchen operations have become to the firm.

There is no doubt that Simon’s operational background has been a key factor in the group’s progress, arming him with a key understanding of the factors that influence success at the coalface.

Acquisitions continue to form the backbone of Simon and the board’s strategy, as illustrated by its recent proposed £100m takeover of Revolution Bars Group, which is poised to bolster its position in the premium segment of the drinking out market.
