The Marston’s empire continues to gain scale under the guidance of Ralph Findlay, who has turned the company into one of the UK’s most envied pub operators and independent brewers during his 17 years in charge.
While the overall number is lower than the figure seen previously, it still represents expansion at a time when others are reining in their growth plans.
The chain has made modest and prudent adjustments to its capital plans to reflect the current economic and consumer climate, but Ralph is convinced that the medium-term outlook for the eating-out and wet-led pub sectors leaves the well-balanced business in a solid position moving forward.
Marston’s continues to innovate on the food front, becoming the first national pub chain to sell a meatless ‘bleeding’ burger, which sizzles, smells, tastes and bleeds like meat but is completely plant-based.
The introduction of the burger, which will be offered through 413 of its food pubs nationwide, follows a major review of its menu off the back of growing demand for healthier and alternative options across the pub sector.
