POWER LIST 2018, BUSINESS LEADERS: Tom Crowley, CEO, Boparan Restaurant Group

Giraffe Stop

Former Giraffe Restaurants managing director Tom Crowley stepped into the Boparan Restaurant Group hotseat two years to replace veteran Joe Teixeira and he has steered the company through a new phase of growth.

After inheriting seven brands and more than 100 sites, not to mention a solid franchise business, Tom has set to work establishing the organisation as a powerful player in the hospitality sector.

The acquisition of Ed’s Easy Diners, Cinnamon Collection and Giraffe has helped the company build scale in a comparatively short period of time and create a large restaurant network in the UK and abroad.

Boparan’s latest efforts have seen it secure a franchise partnership with Lagardere Travel Retail to export Giraffe to Spain, while in a separate move Tom has overseen the launch of the company’s first retail offering.

Through a deal with Tesco, a variety of world dishes from Giraffe and desserts from Ed’s Easy Diner will be rolled out across 300 supermarkets nationwide.

“As we continue to develop our Giraffe and Ed’s Easy Diner brands, it is great to be entering the retail arena with an experienced and market-leading partner like Tesco,” he says.

Boparan also owns the iconic Harry Ramsden’s brand, which is currently looking to sign up dozens of new UK franchisees.
