Pret A Manger has brushed aside the economic concerns cited by many of its foodservice compatriots to open no fewer than 31 new shops already in 2018, displaying an appetite for growth that undoubtedly impressed new private equity owner JAB prior to it taking over the successful high street sandwich chain this year.
New launches have been undertaken in Denmark, the Netherlands and the US, where it has opened at a busy new motorway service station in Delaware, while its first shop in Germany, at Berlin Central Station, will begin trading this year.
Meanwhile, Pret’s ‘Veggie’ concept is firmly taking off and a new store that it is opening in Manchester will marks its first move outside of London as it bids to build on its £878m turnover.
None of this growth would be possible without a talented food development team cooking up new recipes and menu additions, which is where Hannah Dolan and her colleagues come in.
New salads, baguettes and Pret’s first vegan cookie arrived in shops this year, while the expansion of its Veggie format has been accompanied by a new menu roll-out featuring delights such as butternut and cauliflower gratin and a spicy halloumi and peppers toasted baguette.
