POWER LIST 2018, CHAIN CHAMPIONS: Laura Bird, Equipment & Decor Purchasing manager, IPC Europe (Subway)

There have been some exciting changes at Subway this year as the chain sets itself up for its next chapter of growth in a QSR sector where nobody can afford to take their eye off the ball.

More than 100 of Subway’s 2,400-strong UK store network now feature its new ‘Fresh Forward’ branding following a successful pilot in Manchester, and that figure will only increase.

The new layout boasts a flexible dining area, open ceilings to make the interiors more airy, revamped counters and digital menu boards, plus it is backed up by access to the latest equipment.

The credit for that goes to the European Independent Purchasing Company (IPC Europe), which manages more than £1.5 billion worth of contracts on behalf of the store estate.

Equipment and decor purchasing manager, Laura Bird, is a key part of the team involved in sourcing the most valuable kitchen equipment and she has been part of some landmark development work.

This includes approving True Refrigeration for reach-in refrigeration and appointing Hobart as its exclusive approved commercial dishwasher provider.

“We are fully committed to ensuring our suppliers are correctly embedded in the system to support our franchisees,” says Laura.
