KFC found itself in the news for all the wrong reasons at the start of this year as a chicken shortage caused by a change in logistics partner led to hundreds of stores temporarily closing for business.

Since then, the chain has put all its energy into recovering from the crisis and highlighting the more positive developments that will ultimately transcend its kitchens in the months to come. 

This includes plans to give its menu a dramatic makeover by unveiling a calorie reduction commitment to remove 20% of calories per serving by 2025 — an initiative that Victoria Robertson and her team remain hugely excited about.

They have been focusing on creating new lighter meals, developing alternative recipes to improve existing dishes and making it easier for customers to make lighter choices.

Additionally, as an alternative to its famous fried chicken, KFC plans to launch a new vegetarian option, which will be tested with customers later this year.

“We know people are more passionate than ever about eating well, and we face a big challenge in shifting their perceptions of what we offer,” says Victoria.

“We’ve done it before, though — the success of our Riceboxes has shown that our fans will go for lighter options from us.”
