Designing kitchens for a QSR environment is a fine art, with prep areas notoriously small and congested.
Nobody knows that better than Taco Bell, which has honed its kitchen templates over a period of decades in order to achieve ultra-high productivity and ensure that not a single inch of space is wasted.
The latest step for the brand is open kitchens that bring a whole new layer of transparency to proceedings – and the UK is leading the way with that under the watchful eye of general manager Jorge Torres.
“I think people want to see what they are being served, what the ingredients are and how it is done,” he remarks.
Jorge has been leading the resurgence of Taco Bell’s business in the UK as it looks to scale its presence in the race for Tex-Mex domination.
With Taco Bell rolling out a string of London restaurants and eyeing new locations right the way across the UK, there is a genuine feel from within the business that it is transitioning from a smaller player within the market to a true multi-site force.
It now operates more than 30 stores after a flurry of new openings in the past 12 months, with key franchise partners also investing in building their portfolio.
“Over the next five years my dream would be to get to 200 restaurants in the UK,” he reveals.
