Pub chain launches first ever ‘free-to-all’ industry learning programme

Star Pubs & Bars elearning

Star Pubs & Bars is making free elearning available to anyone interested in taking a pub or working in the industry, regardless of whether or not this is with Star.

The initiative includes three modules covering running a leased pub, finance and business planning and pub legislation which can be readily accessed on the company’s website.

The training is designed for those thinking of taking their first leased pub as well as for existing licensees wanting to update their knowledge and multiple operators looking to develop key staff.

The company anticipates that it will also be useful for those taking pubs on assignment who often miss out on the initial support and guidance provided by pub companies to direct recruits.

The launch is believed to be a first in the leased sector and coincides with the rise in interest in taking on a pub that Star Pubs & Bars traditionally sees in January.

Lawson Mountstevens, Star Pubs & Bars managing director explains: “Well-informed applicants are better equipped to ask the right questions when they are considering a pub, produce a robust business plan for their favoured site and to hit the ground running when they start. Ultimately, confident, well-trained licensees create stronger and more sustainable pub businesses. We hope this move will benefit the pub industry as a whole.”

Available in the support section of Star’s website, the modules are written in “plain English” and take approximately 40 minutes to do. A certificate can be downloaded on completion.

The modules cover everything from the role of the BDM and agreement types to repair obligations and fixtures and fittings. It also advises on business plans, operational costs and legislation.

Star Pubs & Bars intends to add more modules to the range on offer over time.

The free training can be accessed HERE.
