Brighton is the UK’s coffee capital, with the city boasting the highest number of coffee shops per person, new research has revealed.
There are currently 363 registered cafes in Brighton, the equivalent of one coffee shop for every 800 people.
Edinburgh gives Brighton a run for its money, with one coffee shop per 911 people, while Belfast ranks third on the list with one per 1,034.
In addition to being the ultimate UK coffee hotspot, Brighton also offers the highest proportion of independent coffee shops.
Only 6% of cafés in Brighton are operated by big chains such as Starbucks, Costa, Caffè Nero and Pret A Manger, followed by Plymouth at 9% and Belfast at 10%.
Although London boasts the most coffee shops in the UK, with 3,718 cafés, many other UK cities outrank the capital when it comes to the number of coffee shops per person,
The data, compiled by Fireheart Coffee, also found that Bournemouth is the place to be for those seeking the ultimate coffee-drinking experience.
Over a quarter of Bournemouth cafés boast 5-star ratings, the highest in the UK. Liverpool, at 22%, and Sheffield, at 19%, come second and third respectively.
