A KFC branch has hit the headlines for erecting a ‘chicken wire’ fence in front of its counter to keep staff safe.
The fast food chain took the “drastic” measure in Chelmsley, Birmingham following a spate of violent incidents, including a woman vaulting the counter to assault an employee in the kitchen.
Bosses took the decision to install vertical metal bars along the counter, separating it from the kitchen and prep area.
The branch has been described as “one of the roughest in Birmingham”, with customers reportedly afraid to visit it after dark due to antisocial behaviour.
Britain has got so bad KFC staff need protection with metal bars
One customer was reported as saying: “I don’t feel unsafe here as there’s security staff here but it’s a bit unnerving to see security barriers at a KFC.”
A KFC spokesperson told the Birmingham Mail: “We’re sorry for any issues caused by the barriers, but these have been put up for the safety of our team members.”
