Fast food chain Shake Shack is planning to open between 65-70 new restaurants across its global estate this year as it looks to continue focusing on its drive-thru offer, and has also revealed the opening date for its new site in London’s Oxford Street.

The chain’s chief financial officer, Katie Fogertey, announced its plans to open the new sites this year at the recent ICR Conference, with 40 of the restaurants due to be domestic units and the remainder being licensed.

The company intends to focus on the construction and launch of new sites over the coming year, as well as the expansion of its delivery and drive-thru services.

There are currently 11 drive-thru locations in operation, with nine of these opening last year.

Shake Shack is also set to open its 12th location in the UK on Friday, 27 January at 1pm, becoming the first Shake Shack with a vertically orientated kitchen.

To celebrate the opening, the brand will bring the local community together for a series of launch events.

Guests are encouraged to queue up to catch the action, with the first 100 guests in line set to receive a limited-edition tote bag.

Staying true to Shake Shack’s mission to Stand For Something Good, the new site will donate five per cent of sales of its Sticky Crossing concrete to FoodCycle, a national charity that provides three-course community meals, using surplus food, to anyone in need.

Fans will be able to get their hands on all the Shack classics, including the signature ShackBurger, Crinkle-Cut Fries, Flat-top Dogs, ShackMeister Ale and hand-spun shakes, in addition to special menu items unique to the store.

The chain has reported total revenues of US$238.5 million in the fourth quarter of its last financial year, and US$900.5 for its full 2022 financial year.

It saw system-wide sales of US$364.1m in the fourth quarter of FY22 and US$1.4 billion for the full financial year.

Same-Shack sales were up by 5.1% in the fourth quarter of FY22 compared to the same period in 2021 and rose by 7.8% for the full financial year compared to 2021.

The brand opened 36 new domestic company-operated restaurants in FY22, 22 of which opened in the fourth quarter, while 33 new licensed sites launched in FY22, 13 of which opened in the fourth quarter.
