US chain giant Taco Bell takes aim at the north of England

Taco Bell, the world’s largest Mexican-style quick service restaurant chain, is expanding its presence across the North of England with the help of national commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH).

LSH has been working with one of Taco Bell’s UK franchisees, Northgate Fast Foods, to find new sites across the north for some months and has already facilitated two new in line stores in Sheffield as well as one in Barnsley and another in Nottingham.

Tom Burlaga, agency surveyor at LSH in Sheffield, said: “Taco Bell is an instantly recognisable brand and one that it’s very exciting to see come to the North of England. We’ve been working with Northgate Fast Foods for a number of months now and its plans for expanding the franchise across the region show a real confidence in the local food retail market.”

The two sites in Sheffield are both located in the city centre, on Ecclesall Road and Devonshire Street respectively, and, along with the Barnsley outlet on Peel Street, total more than 6,000 sq ft of retail space for Taco Bell in South Yorkshire alone.

Arjun Patel from Northgate Fast Foods, said: “There’s clearly a desire for a variety of quality food outlets offering great value like Taco Bell across the North of England, and the stores that we have already opened are proving a great success. It is a testament to the region’s growing economy that we are looking to open several more new stores in the next 12 months.”

Acting on behalf of Northgate Fast Foods, LSH is assessing high street and shopping centre opportunities across Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Northumberland & Tyne and Wear, as well as locations at some of the region’s major transport hubs – something that would be a first for the brand in the UK.

Founded in 1962 in Downey California, Taco Bell serves made-to-order and customisable tacos, burritos, nachos and other specialities. Taco Bell now has more than 6,000 restaurants across the United States  and continues to grow with over 250 restaurants internationally. It also has five other UK stores located in Bradford, Manchester and the East of England.
