Thor targets growth with gas cooking appliances

Next-day catering equipment supplier Nisbets has introduced a new brand of commercial cooking equipment to the UK market that it believes will fill a much-needed gap for a medium to heavy duty offering. FEJ reports.

With more than 20,000 lines in its portfolio, Nisbets already offers the most extensive range of catering wares in the UK. But the firm has managed to find room for a new brand that it believes will satisfy the appetite of customers seeking a heavy duty cooking offering at an affordable price.

The Thor brand, which Nisbets has introduced to the UK market in the last few weeks, is one it has been planning to bring in for some months following the huge success it claims the line has had in Australia since its launch in 2014.

During that time, Nisbets insists the brand has developed a reputation for its high level of workmanship and use of top quality components.

The Thor portfolio includes a comprehensive range of grills, fryers and oven ranges, with most available as either LPG or natural gas models.

Highlights from the stable include the extensive choice of Thor oven ranges — available in either 4 or 6 burner sizes. Made from stainless steel, these sturdy and robust units boast thick insulation to retain heat, which add both weight and strength to the equipment. The oven itself has a heavy duty, double-skinned pull-down door, a mechanism preferred by many professional chefs who find it easier to use when loading and unloading the oven.

The heavy duty gas burner tops are cast iron and designed to maximise the flame, with no hot or cold spots, making the Thor ovens some of the most powerful available on the market, according to Nisbets, and providing the right heat when it is needed.

The units accommodate three shelf positions with two shelves featuring stop positions at the rear to ensure the product cannot be pushed too far back. The shelves are large enough to hold 2/1 gastronorm pans.

Nisbets says the Thor oven range is available in various sizes and widths, making it suitable for all manner of catering establishments. A 4 burner oven starts at £1,199 excluding VAT, while a 20 litre gas fryer, for example, costs £749 before VAT. A selection of griddles, starting from £699, also forms part of the Thor range. They are manufactured from stainless steel with a polished cooking surface, and are ideal for medium to heavy duty use.

The one-piece stainless steel plate ensures quick heat up and recovery times, while the large, easy-to-use control dials complete with piezo ignition and flame failure device offer the added advantage of being able to control separate cooking zones.

This means that specific areas can be used for cooking different types of food, making the unit a practical and flexible addition to commercial kitchens.

The new Thor products feature in the current edition of Nisbets’ catalogue, as well as on the company’s website. Selected models will also be available to view in Nisbets stores around the country. It operates showrooms in Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and three in London.

The Thor range currently includes the following commercial cooking products, all of which are available as natural gas and LPG models:
