Whitbread’s steak brand and open kitchen lands in Portsmouth

Contemporary steak brand, Bar + Block Steakhouse, is set to open a 560 square metre site on Queen Street, Portsmouth, in early March following the successful roll-out in Wimbledon, Belfast, Bristol, Winnersh, Sutton and Newcastle in 2019.

The 165-cover restaurant will be the 14th site for Bar + Block, which is becoming a key part of Whitbread’s restaurant strategy.

As with all other Bar + Block restaurants, steak will be at the heart of the extensive menu, featuring rotating specials from the Butcher’s Block, grazing plates and handmade burgers prepared on-site using prime beef.

The modern design inspired by the theatre of food and drink, will feature a large bar with copper detailing and an open kitchen, complemented by reclaimed wood, high quality fabrics, comfy seating and warm lighting.

Decorative finishing touches include the brand’s signature neon cow, alongside a number of contemporary artwork pieces.

Joanna Spencer, senior brand and marketing manager from Whitbread Restaurants, said: “Situated in a prime city location in close vicinity to the popular Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, we are looking forward to expanding the Bar + Block brand in Portsmouth, which will be our 14th site and our first opening in 2020.”
