Wine storage equipment firm branches into restaurant and hotel sector

A firm with 15 years experience selling high-end wine fridges to the home market is making its first play for the commercial foodservice sector after bulking outs its product offering.

Oxfordshire-based Wine Storage Solutions has focused largely on serving consumers although it has more recently added larger, sophisticated models with lighting and higher capacities.

Managing director Roy Wilson said the success of the business meant it had not felt the need to expand into the catering sector over the years, but a clamour for its equipment had led to a rethink.

“Recent conversations with buying groups Cedabond and Ense have been something of a revelation and have convinced us that there would be huge interest in our product range within the catering industry, due to the unique selling points we have to offer,” he explained.

Wine Storage Solutions considers its designs unique but most importantly they are self-contained, which means they can be installed in almost any location without needing to provide drainage or pipework.

“Their appeal will be to restaurants and hotels looking to create something of a ‘wow’ factor within their establishment, while sending a message to customers that keeping wine in proper condition is a very important consideration,” said Mr Wilson.

With wine consumption in the UK growing and people now more aware of how wine should be served and at what temperature, the company thinks it won’t be long before dedicated wine display cabinets with the latest temperature control systems and lighting are a feature in more restaurants.

To facilitate the expansion, the company has divided its Teca range of wine displays – which have glass on all four sides – into Home and Professional divisions. It is offering access to a bespoke version of its Espace walk-in wine cellar, up to 6.3 metres in length, and a restaurant version of its ‘WineWall’ system, which is equipped with four columns of slide-out shelves that can be adapted for different bottle formats.

“We are confident that we now have a product portfolio that will be warmly welcomed by the hotel and restaurant industry,” he said.
