Ripples, the maker of a device that prints images on coffee and other foam-topped beverages, has secured a European sales distribution agreement with coffee machine giant WMF that is almost certain to be extended to the UK in the future.

The deal announced today will see WMF offering the Ripple Maker alongside its automatic and semi-automatic barista coffee machines in Germany and Austria.

But a spokesperson for Ripples in confirmed that the company is looking at a “wider roll-out” with WMF, which has its UK office in Uxbridge, and that a local agreement along the lines of the Austrian and German one is “likely” at some stage.

If so, it will provide an alternative but complementary route-to-market to its partnership with JetChill, which was brought on board in December to help Ripples grow sales in the bar and venues market.

The Ripple Maker prints high-resolution images and messages directly on to any foam-topped drink, such as cappuccino, Nitro-brewed coffee, as well as foam-topped cocktails.

The company claims that the technology heralds a significant innovation in marketing and customer engagement for hotel, restaurant and coffee businesses, transforming the simple act of serving a drink into a surprising event that customers want to enjoy again and again.

WMF said the Ripple Maker dovetails nicely with its WMF ‘Dynamic Milk’ system, available with the WMF 1500 S, WMF 5000 S and WMF 9000 S+ coffee machines.

Yossi Meshulam, CEO of Ripples, said: “WMF coffee machines have a well-earned reputation for excellence in coffee and catering equipment all over the world. The state of the art milk-foam technology from WMF is a perfect match with Ripples, and will benefit any business embarking on creating customer engagement at the point of service. This partnership will allow us to offer Ripples to all hospitality businesses dedicated to delivering an enhanced customer experience.”

Ripples’ system is already used by leading brands, including Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Marriott, Marco Polo Hotels, Shangri-La, The Four Seasons, Starwood, Twitter and Microsoft.

Marten van der Mei, VP professional coffee machines at WMF Group, described the Ripple Maker as an “ingenious marketing platform” to connect businesses with their customers. “Ripples is an excellent choice for hotels and F&B businesses who want to propel their customer offering to the next level of service, and is a fantastic accompaniment for WMF professional coffee machines.”
